GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMANT

The Department of Geography aims to examine the relationship between people and their environment, and the geographical phenomena that occur due to this relationship. Geography, which is a discipline that analyzes dispersion patterns of populations with their causes and consequences, tries to explain the reconstruction of space with analytical studies. The department aims to produce graduates who have fundamental geography knowledge and are able to produce, process, evaluate and manage data about the natural and human environment by means of geographic information technologies. The departments consists of two main branches: Physical Geography and Human Geography.

Graduates of the department can find employment opportunities in various sectors and lines of work where Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies are used. Also, the graduates who receive pedagogical formation training can be employed as teachers in primary or secondary schools affiliated to the Turkish Ministry of National Education.

Opportunities Provided By The Department

Students in the department can pursue a double major with the Departments of  Biology, Philosophy, Geophysical Engineering, Psychology, Art History, Social Work, Sociology, History, and Turkish Language and Literature. The department also offers minor programs in Human Geography, Geographical Information Systems and Physical Geography to Sakarya University students. There are also special interest courses in the areas of Geographical Information Systems, Climatology, Political Geography and Geopolitics, and Urban Geography with the aim of helping students find their area of interest.

The daytime and evening education programs of the department are accredited by FEDEK. There are ERASMUS agreements with Czechia, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Romania; and MEVLÂNA foreign exchange agreements with Azerbaijan, Morocco, Palestine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Macedonia and Jordan. The department also has agreements with various universities in Turkey as part of the FARABI program.
